O’SHEA’S Carpet Cleaning was started in 1990 by Mr Sean O’Shea. Sean migrated from Ireland to Australia as a teenager. Sean was not afraid of hard work and felt that Australia would reward him for his efforts.
Upon arriving in Australia, Sean set out as a door-to-door salesman and it was the income from this that bought Sean his first set of carpet cleaning equipment. It was the experience from this that gave Sean the skills and values that he would take with him for life. A salesman working with Sean told him of how rewarding the carpet cleaning business could be so he decided to give it a try.
Despite some initial hardships, he persevered and it did not take long for Sean to build a strong customer base that would pave the way for things to come. During the initial years, Sean worked predominantly alone. His customers generally came from his efforts knocking on doors and, from here, a flow of customers came from word of mouth. He prided himself on doing the job properly – no short cuts – and created strong relationships with all of his customers. Customers who still use O’SHEA’S Carpet Cleaning 20 years on.
As more business started to roll in, Sean worked with a number of casual staff to ensure he was able to meet the demands of his growing customer base. Up until this point, the focus had primarily been on domestic carpet cleaning. As the demand for services from O’SHEA’S Carpet Cleaning increased, a number of commercial customers started to come on board. Many of these clients were retail outlets in shopping malls that saw Sean working and were impressed with his efforts. These clients still use O’SHEA’S Carpet Cleaning 19 years on.
Before long, a small office and administration staff were required as Sean could no longer keep up with the volume of bookings coming in and complete the cleaning work.
O’SHEA’S Strong Customer Focus
From the very beginning, Sean adopted a strong customer focus concentrating on ensuring he never let his customers down. These values have been passed on to each and every staff member, including such aspects as punctuality, quality of work, value for money, commitment and superior customer service skills.
It was also in the early days that Sean joined the Australian Carpet Cleaning Institute [ACCI] and began regular formal training. This is also something that he has continued and he goes to considerable efforts to ensure his staff also get access to ongoing formal training, as well as on-the-job training.
Sean feels strongly about the fact that the Carpet Cleaning industry is unregulated and one is not required to do any training at all before they can all themselves a “Carpet Cleaner”. He is an advocate of regulating the industry and is, today, a member of both ACCI and NUCCA [National Upholstery and Carpet Cleaning Association]. O’SHEA’S Carpet Cleaning Pty Ltd is also certified by IICRC [Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification].
O’SHEA’S Extensive Cleaning and Maintenace Services
Today, the head office for O’SHEA’S Carpet Cleaning is located on Port Road at Beverley and provides an extensive list of cleaning and maintenance services. The business remains a family-owned business with a primary focus on customer service and quality of service. Sean remains in the business in the capacity of a Carpet Cleaner, specialist in flood restoration and Director of the company. Sean remains as committed to the continuing success of the business as he did the day he started.
